Clashes between Korean and foreign solutions are expected in Internet of Things (IoT) marketing.
According to the industry on August 4, DAOUDATA will provide the IoT marketing service Steady High in a commercial district of Seoul using local network technology. This service transmits shopping information to smartphones of people moving around shopping malls through Bluetooth technology. People could receive and check the product and discount information of nearby stores, and shop owners could conduct target marketing towards potential consumers nearby.
Apple’s iBeacon, promotional near field communication (NFC), attracts a lot of attention as an IoT solution. iBeacon is data network technology that utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). iBeacon can transmit data to smartphones within 50m. Apple first started this service in Apple stores in the US last year, automatically providing product information to visitors with iPhones or iPads.
DAOUDATA is confident that its Steady High is superior to Apple’s iBeacon, as iBeacon only operates above Bluetooth 4.0 and cannot differentiate between overlapped data. Steady High in fact works below Bluetooth 4.0 and differentiates the information it is sending to users and non-senders. Furthermore, Steady High consumes less electricity, as its transmitter finds smartphones, whereas smartphones have to find transmitters when using iBeacon.
A DAOUDATA associate said, “Although IoT is being spotlighted these days, there is no proper business model yet. As Steady High has many technological advantages, we expect good performances in both Korea and overseas markets.”
