Smart shoes that vibrate to guide people in the right direction have been developed by an Indian firm.

According to IT news site Betabeat on July 27 (local time), Indian startup Ducere Technologies is going to sell its Lechal smart shoes in September.

The Bluetooth-enabled shoes sync with Google Maps, and after a user has entered in a destination, the the left or right shoe vibrates depending on which way a wearer needs to turn to reach the destination.

Krispian Lawrence, co-founder & CEO of Ducere Technologies, said, “Our smart shoes are like an extended version of the human body,” adding, “People can leave their watch or wristband at home, but cannot leave the house without shoes.”

He revealed that the smart shoes will be sold for US$100-150 in some stores starting in Sept., and that the company already took 25,000 pre-orders for the gear.

At first, the company invented the smart shoes for those who are visually impaired. However, they realized that it can also work for joggers, mountain bikers, or travelers.

The IT news site pointed out that we should admit that wearable technology, which is being actualized in the form of smart glasses, watches, or shoes, makes us happy.
