Hyundai Engineering, which is scheduled to be merged with Hyundai Amco today, April 1, announced on March 31 that the company and Rajamandala Electric Power signed a hydroelectric power plant contract worth US$91.334 million. The Korean builder will carry out all processes of the project, from designing the plant to procuring the necessary materials and constructing the plant itself.

The project includes a 47-megawatt hydroelectric power plant, a tunnel waterway, and power transmission lines,  with a target completion date of March 2017. The projects will be built near the city of Bandung, 150 kilometers southeast of Jakarta. The new power plant is aimed at providing electricity to Jakarta and the surrounding areas.

In 2010, the firm built a 20.6-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle power plant in the Batam region of the Southeast Asian country, and enlarged the existing gas turbine power plant in the same area. The company said that this deal was made possible because its power plant business capabilities were recognized.

An official at Hyundai Engineering said, “Southeast Asia has favorable conditions for generating hydroelectric power due to plenty of rainfall. So, a large number of extra orders are expected.” The official added, “We will accelerate efforts to win additional orders using our prior experience in the river maintenance business, and in designing various kinds of hydroelectric power plants.”
