For the first time in the industry, LG Display supplies plastic OLED panels to Mercedes Benz for its new models scheduled to be released this year.
According to industry sources, the New E Class that is to be put on the market in June comes with a plastic OLED panel option and the plastic OLED panel is to be supplied by LG Display. The plastic OLED panel that LG Display is to supply is expected to be used in the 12.3-inch wide screen in which the dashboard and the central information display are combined with each other to display vehicle traveling information, navigation information and the like.
Some show cars equipped with plastic OLED panels have been exhibited at different motor shows. However, this is the first case in which that type of panel is incorporated into manufactured cars.
As the E Class accounts for approximately 40% of Mercedes Benz’ overall sales volume, it is expected that the collaboration between the automaker and LG Display will trigger a rapid expansion of the automotive OLED display panel market.
