VWORLD on Mobile

It will soon be possible to see 3D maps and the latest visual map of Korea on your smartphone.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on Feb. 11 that it will launch a mobile service for VWORLD, the main infrastructure of the creative economy and government 3.0, so that people can use the service whenever and wherever they want.

VWORLD is a map service and open platform that the government provides to make many kinds of spatial data easy to use, including a 2D map, a 3D map, a land registry map, and real estate information. After the service became available on numerous web browsers such as Chrome, Safari, and Firefox last January, it will soonbe also accessible on the smartphone.

The new mobile service provides 22 kinds of geospatial data across the country, including a 3D map, the latest visual map of Korea, a serial cadastral map, a land use map, together with administrative information (the official land value and the present conditions of land use). Searching for locations (the names of facilities, addresses included), and marking the location of a user will also be possible with the service.

In particular, the use of GPS navigation on the smartphone enables users to pinpoint their current location. Moreover, users can easily search their immediate surroundings and store and analyze routes by marking them on the map. In addition, a 3D map, which was mainly about Seoul and some large cities, will cover an additional 18 major cities such as Yongin and Cheonan.
