Sirgoo Lee, co-CEO of Kakao, will deliver a keynote address at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on February 24, 2014. He will be the first CEO of a Korean startup company to speak at the main keynote session of the MWC.
Sirgoo will speak in Auditorium 1 of Hall 4 of the Fira Grand at 11:15am on Monday, Feb. 24th. His address, titled “Mobile Disrupted; Challenging the State of Play,” will be about the growth and success of KakaoTalk, his company’s flagship product. He will also speak about his strategy and vision for the company’s next steps on the mobile platform. He will be joined by the CEOs of WhatsApp and representatives from other telco operators, to discuss the next challenges in and direction of the mobile ecosystem.
Sirgoo Lee said about the event, “It’s not just Kakao’s innovation of developing new business models for our messenger platform that will be in the spotlight, but Korea’s mobile industry and innovations as a whole,” and continued, “As the first non-telco CEO from Korea to present a keynote at the MWC, I hope to be able to embrace this opportunity to seek out new opportunities in our mobile platform for cooperations where Kakao and carriers can both benefit.”
The MWC is the largest conference and expo for mobile companies in the world, organized by the GSMA, an alliance of mobile operators and other key players in the mobile ecosystem.
KakaoTalk, Kakao’s mobile messaging application, has over 130 million users all around the world. It delivers billions of text, photo, video, and voice messages every day. It is available on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Bada OS, and Windows desktop computers.
