It has been found that the number of wearable device users in Korea increased by more than 90-fold in a year to break the 300,000 mark.
The Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning announced on Dec. 6 that the number of wearable device users in Korea soared from 3,542 to 320,692 between October last year and the same month of this year.
The wearable devices refer to smart watches, Kids’ Phones i.e. mobile phones for children, etc. The smart watches reflected in the statistics are limited to those using SIM cards. “Those smart watches that have no built-in SIM card are not reflected in the statistics as of now,” an official at the ministry explained, adding, “The actual size of the market is expected to be much larger than what the data shows when such devices are taken into account.”
In the meantime, the number of tablet PC service subscribers is showing a slight decline in contrary to the explosive growth of the number of wearable gadget users in the country. The number of users of IoT devices including wearable equipment increased in the one-year period with a single exception of tablet PC users.
