POSCO ICT, an affiliate of steelmaker POSCO in South Korea, is exporting an airport distribution system called Baggage Handling System (BHS). BHS is a comprehensive distribution management system at the airport to move travelers’ baggage to the airplane to board, by reading the tags attached to the baggage.

“The BHS-related market reaches up to about US$6.45 billion, and that the growth potentials are high such as getting increased by 7.8 percent on average until the year 2020, according to MarketsandMarkets 2015,” said a company official at POSCO ICT.

POSCO ICT operates a baggage-handling system that reaches up to a total extension of 88 km, since Incheon International Airport opened in 2001. It is also participating as the organizer of a consortium in the development of a baggage handling system to be applied on the second passenger terminal, which is currently under construction.

POSCO ICT is planning to export the system to the countries with high demand of new airports such as China, Iran or Saudi Arabia by developing a system designed to be suitable for large-scale airports such as Incheon International Airport as a solution to be proper for small and medium-scale airports.
