The Export-Import Bank of Korea announced on Oct. 29 that it provides an Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of US$12.8 million for Jordan with regard to the country’s project for research reactor construction.
To this end, Lim Seong-hyuk, who coordinates economic cooperation programs at the bank, visited the Jordanian government building in Amman on October 28 (local time) and met with Jordanian Minister of Planning & International Cooperation Imad N. Fakhoury to sign a loan grant agreement.
This is the second time that Korea provides Jordan with a loan for this purpose. Back in 2010, the bank presented US$70 million in EDCF for Jordan’s first research reactor project. The supplementary loan granted at this time is to help Jordan use additional equipment essential for its research reactor with international nuclear safety standards having been elevated since the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
In the meantime, the bank is planning to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Amman on October 29 to celebrate the completion of its EDCF-based sewerage system construction project in the capital city. The systems are expected to make a great contribution to regional healthcare and the living standards of the locals while improving agricultural productivity by allowing used water to be utilized for farming purposes .
