LG Electronics will showcase a luxury smart watch worth US$1,200 (around 1.4 million won) and sell only 500 units. The smart watch has gone through 50 manufacturing process stages, is plated with 23-karat gold, and has an alligator leather strap.
On Aug. 31, LG announced that it will unveil the LG Watch Urbane Luxe during this year's IFA in Berlin, Germany from Sept. 4 to 9.
The smart watch is a luxury version of its Watch Urbane, and it comes in a piano-gloss lacquer case for more luxury. The Korean tech giant is planning to manufacture only 500 units in a limited edition, each with its own serial number.
The wearable device is scheduled to be sold through REEDS Jewelers, a U.S. retail jewelry company, from late Oct. The company will take pre-orders for the smart watch at www.reeds.com and its stores in the U.S. from late Sept.
The Watch Urbane, which was debuted at the MWC 2015 in Barcelona, Spain in March, has been well received by the industry for its classic round design, which is traditional for a wristwatch, after the G Watch R that featured a round design for the first time. The smart watch recently received EISA's Best Product Award in the wearable device category, and nine awards at MWC 2015.
