Shyam Pillalamarri, the SVP of technology and CTO for Samsung SDS, makes a presentation about the management of logistics and Cello Square at the company's Aug. 25 briefing in Samsung SDS Tower, Seoul.

On Aug. 25 Samsung SDS unveiled an open-source logistics platform named Cello Square, announcing that it will provide the service starting on Aug. 27.

Cello Square is a space where shippers and logistics firms meet. It is an innovative logistics platform that facilitates logistics services and provides services specialized for mutual cooperation and communication.

This platform is significant in that it can provide different and innovative logistics services to customers due to its ability to transport and deliver goods and its cutting-edge IT capabilities based on four enablers – social media, mobility, analytics, and cloud computing – collectively referred to as SMAC.

One of the characteristics of the service provided by the platform is that major logistics actions can be done in one place. It is possible for shippers to check flight and shipping schedules around the world by entering the place of departure, destination, and shipping schedule for cargo at www.cellosquare.com.

Once shippers enter the necessary data, the best match service provided at the site recommends the most suitable freight charges and shipping schedule. It is also possible to request a reservation and to track goods.

In particular, the logistics platform analyzes the danger of logistics caused by a natural disaster or accidents using its technology that analyzes big data, notifying users of danger scores by area and route via e-mail or text message.

There is a service especially made for cooperation and communication between shippers and logistics firms. Users can get an answer on logistics from experts, and they can receive information related to the latest global logistics via a PC or an app, which can be shared through SNS.

In addition, the Customs Library service is notable as well. The service can be used in online markets where shippers and logistics firms are involved in direct business transactions. The service can also provide information on the clearance of imported and exported goods worldwide, and calculates customs duties and internal taxes.
