A large-scale developer summit related to the Tizen Operating System (OS) led by Samsung Electronics has started. Tizen OS is receiving a lot of attention as to whether or not it will curb the dominance of Google's Android OS and Apple's iOS. The Z3, Samsung's second Tizen phone, is expected to be introduced to the Middle Eastern market next year, including Egypt, in addition to parts of Asia such as India and Bangladesh.
This year's Tizen Developer Summit began in Bangalore, India on June 30, and will finish on June 31.
At the event, the Korean tech giant reaffirmed its strategy that it will target the global smartphone market, using India with low smartphone penetration rates as a major base. The company also revealed its intention to increase its price competitiveness so that the Z3 can easily penetrate emerging countries in Asia, since feature phones still account for over 50 percent of the market in India and Bangladesh. However, it also revealed a plan to release not only low-priced models, but also other types of phones.
Observers say that Samsung will launch the Z3, which is receiving a lot of attention as the second Tizen-powered smartphone, in the Middle East, including Egypt, in 2016.
Tech blog Tizen Indonesia reported, "Samsung will roll out its Tizen phone in Egypt early next year." More than 1 million units of the Z1 were sold in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh from Jan. to June 2015. The Android phone maker seems to intend to introduce the Z3 to more countries than the Z1, and to use the model as a springboard to expand the Tizen ecosystem.
Previously, overseas media outlets such as SamMobile reported that the Z3 will be released to Europe, in addition to India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. As the Z3 is expected to be launched in an increasing number of countries, from Asia and Europe to the Middle East, observers say that Samsung will actively seek to expand the Tizen ecosystem.
