Cheil Jedang has started full-fledged production of L-methionine plant. Earlier, the company and France-based Arkema jointly invested to construct the plant in Malaysia, which can produce 80,000 tons of L-methionine per year.
On June 4, the company held the completion ceremony of the plant for L-methionine, which is essential amino acid market for animal feed, in the Kerteh region of Terengganu state in Malaysia.
The company has started producing methionine by an environmentally-friendly bio-fermentation process using raw sugar and grape sugar as raw materials for the first time in the world. The company has already released the first product at the end of Jan., bringing the global attention. Based on its differentiated technology competitiveness and expertise about major substance of methionine, the company expects the best percentage of yield and stable production in the future.
In the ceremony, CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik said, “Today is the most important day in history of 62 years of CJ Group. As L-methionine is commercialized in earnest, CJ has become the only company in the world to produce five essential amino acids for animal feed, including lysine, threonine, tryptophan, valine and L-methionine, by environmentally-friendly bio-fermentation process.”
As L-methionine developed by Cheil Jedang is verified its excellence in the best association in the livestock industry, it will change the world’s methionine market landscape, which is currently dominated by petroleum-based DL-methionine. L-methionine shows more than 20 to 40 percent higher relative bioavailability than DL-methionine.
