Samsung Electronics has officially announced its flagship smartphones Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The devices will ship on April 10 simultaneously all over the world.

The most refined version of Samsung's flagship sported a stunning glass-and-metal construction at the World Mobile Congress 2015 on March 1 (local time). An attractive fusion of totally different materials came together harmoniously via Samsung's nano-scale coating technology. The smartphone's reflective rear panel comes in attractive colors such as Topaz Blue and White Pearl, changing its appearance based on how much light is reflected off of it.

The UX has been dramatically upgraded. Samsung redesigned it to eliminate stuttering and lag, hoping that users will find the new color-coded menus much easier to navigate. For instance, users can just double tap the home button to capture an image of an app, instead of waiting for the app to load.

Samsung offers a wire free Galaxy S6 experience, supporting WPC and PMA wireless charging to compensate for the lack of a replaceable battery. The battery for both phones lasts for up to 12 hours on Wi-Fi, and a 10 minute charge will get four hours of battery life. “It is faster than any other smartphone in the industry,” Samsung CEO JK Shin claimed, referring to the charging speed. The S6 takes roughly half the time of the iPhone 6 to charge to 100 percent.

The devices are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7 Octa-core processor, which contains two quad-core processors clocked at 2.1 GHz and 1.5GHz respectively. The smartphones have 3GB RAM.

Also, for the first ever in the smartphone industry, the fraternal twins use a 14 nm mobile processor.

Both the S6 and S6 Edge will come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB versions running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Galaxy S6 illustrates its vast potential with a 5.1 Quad HD Super AMOLOED display at 2560x1440 resolution, which comes to a very high 577ppi pixel density. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge also sports a 5.1 Quad HD Super AMOLED display, but with dual curved edges. Both use Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection.

One of the most anticipated features of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is their camera. The front camera will be 5 MP and have a 1.9 index lens that lets users capture quality photos even in low lighting. The rear camera will be 16 MP and also have a 1.9 index lens with real-time HDR and fast tracking auto focus. That means it is capable of letting two thirds more light in than the newest iPhone.

Samsung also talked about Samsung Pay at the unboxing event. Samsung Pay is a mobile payment system that supports NFC and MST payments. Samsung claims it works at more locations than any other competitor. It also says it is protected by Samsung KNOX, fingerprint scanning, and advanced tokenization.

JK Shin, CEO and Head of the IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung, introduced the whole new look, saying, “Samsung is offering what’s next in mobility with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda.”
