US$200M LNG Contract
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has signed a contract with Mitsui OSK Lines to build an LNG carrier.
The eco-friendly ship is 297.2 meters in length and 46.4 meters in width. The contract amount is about US$200 million. It is going to be equipped with the DSME’s partial re-liquefaction system to prevent the loss of natural gas during the transport process.
The ship is scheduled to be delivered in 2018 and be operated by E. ON, one of the largest energy companies in Europe. The DSME is expecting that its first business with E. ON will create more opportunities in Europe.
The DSME, in the meantime, won 37 LNG carrier contracts in 2014 to record a backlog of US$52.3 billion, the highest in its history.
