As Samsung Electronics is planning to supply SUHD TVs this year, it started to sketch out a blueprint to dominate the Internet of Things (IoT) platform.
According to Samsung on Feb. 10, around 30 million Tizen-operated smart TVs are likely to be sold this year. A total of 60 million TVs are expected to be sold, with smart TVs accounting for 50 percent of the total.
If the Korean tech giant, which has enjoyed a 10 year reign as the world's #1 TV maker, continues to maintain its iron-fisted grip on the worldwide TV market, more than 90 million Tizen TVs are likely to be supplied by 2017.
A Samsung associate said, “Starting with SUHD TVs, which debuted at CES 2015, all smart TVs will feature the Tizen platform.” The official added, “Suppose that the sales volume of Tizen-enabled TVs increases every year, nearly 100 million Tizen TVs are projected to be distributed in two years.”
The company named the IoT as a flagship business in the future. In the past, Samsung was able to grow when there was a big change in the market, including the introduction of digital TVs or smartphones. Therefore, the firm believes that the IoT will provide new opportunities to achieve remarkable growth once again.
