Twitter Chairman Q&A

Twitter co-founder and Chairman Jack Dorsey, who visited Korea for the first time, had a live one-hour Q&A session with Korean users via Twitter on Nov. 18.

The Chairman attributed Twitter's success to simplicity. He said, “Twitter is a text-based service, so I thought simplicity is the best virtue,” adding, “People can access our social networking service whenever and wherever they want. And it is open to everyone.”

When asked about Twitter in 10 years and its vision, Dorsey responded that Vine, Twitter's video sharing service, would play a major role.

He pointed out, “I think that more people will want a service that provides interesting content in real time, and it will lead to a video service,” adding, “Vine, which enables people to share six second videos, will play that role.”

He explained, “Humans started to engage in business transactions before they communicated with each other, adding, “I established mobile payment company Square in 2009 to make basic things in life simpler and more free.”

Dorsey commented on the still-rampant spam ads and obscene adult content on Twitter by saying, “These posts account for 5 percent of the total,” adding, “Our team is actively working to eliminate those posts.”

Chairman Dorsey posted the first tweet in May 2006. On average, 500 million tweets are made around the world each day. A total of 284 million people are using the service each month.
