
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has sent two KT-1P Woongbi military training aircraft, the first of a bath of 20, to Peru. Their arrival on Oct. 21 (local time) was met with much fanfare. The ceremony was attended by KAI President Ha Sung-yong, Korean Ambassador to Peru Jang Keun-ho, Air Force Chief of Staff Choi Cha-gyu, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, and many other government figures.
The planes arrived three months ahead of schedule, since they were originally supposed to be delivered by January 2015. The remaining 18 aircraft are scheduled to b delivered by the end of 2016. The agreement between the Peruvian government and KAI is worth US$208 million, and includes 20 airplanes to replace the EMB-312 and MB-339 aircraft that the country currently uses, plus personnel training to learn to maintain the aircraft.
