With Apple's iPhone 6 caught up in “bendgate,” Samsung Electronics is drawing a lot of attention with its official bend test video showing that the Galaxy Note 4 is strong.
Samsung revealed a new clip entitled “Galaxy Note 4 Endures the Gluteus Maximus” via one of its many official YouTube channels on Oct. 2.
In the clip, the Korean tech giant explains, “Our hips are strong. Probably stronger than we think they are,” adding that wallets, credit cards, forks, and smartphones may bend if they are left in a back pocket.
However, it said that the Galaxy Note 4 is so strong that it does not bend.
First, the clip displays that there is no change in the product through a three-pint bend test, where over 250 N (25kgf) of pressure, which can break three pencils at once, is applied to the device.
Then, a human weight test is conducted, in which a 100kg man sits on the device hundreds of times, using a machine. The Galaxy Note 4 seems to be bendable when it is sat on, but it returns to its original state after the pressure is eliminated.
Its metal frame, magnesium bracket, and the mutually reinforcing structures between parts were cited as the main reasons behind the durability of the device.
The clip finally said, “The Galaxy Note 4 is big, thin, and light, but strong.”
Videos like this are receiving a lot of attention, since they can be interpreted as part of Samsung's marketing strategies to make fun of Apple's new iPhone via Twitter.
