Airfares in Korea 14th Most Expensive

Airfares in Korea are the 14th most expensive among 51 countries around the globe.

The Wall Street Journal analyzed the transportation price index of 51 countries worldwide done by GoEuro, a transportation research company located in Berlin, Germany, on August 26. The wages and quality of transportation were not considered in this analysis.

According to the data, the airfare in Korea was US$40.73 (approximately 41,000 won) per 100km, ranked fourteenth place among 51 countries. This is cheaper than its neighbor Japan (US$56.39, approximately 57,000 won), but more expensive than Canada (US$31.78, approximately 32,000 won), the U.K. (US$30.45, approximately 31,000 won) and the U.S. (US$13.89, approximately 14,000 won).

Airfares are cheapest in India, only US$10.20 (approximately 10,000 won) per 100km. Malaysia (US$11.43) and South Africa (US$11.63), both approximately 12,000 won, followed.

On the contrary, airfares are most expensive in Finland, US$136.83 (approximately 139,000 won) for the same distance. Switzerland (US$125.07, approximately 127,000 won) and Lithuania (US$116.72, approximately 118,000 won) are the second the third most expensive countries, respectively.
